You are only eligible for a “Working Holiday Visa” once. You can’t apply for it if you have already obtained a Working Holiday Visa in the past.
If you have visited Germany for other purposes, you are still eligible for the Working Holiday Visa. The purpose of the Working Holiday Programmes is to give young people the chance to gain an insight into the culture and everyday life of one another’s countries. If you have already visited Germany prior to your application, a letter of motivation is required to prove the purpose of your stay.

Yes, this is possible. In this case please submit a plausible explanation of why you plan to do another Working Holiday stay.

You have the possibility to work for one employer for up to six months (overall up to one year if you change employment) to offset your travel expenses or for additional training in connection with your employment. Because the employment is limited to 6 months, marginal employment (up to 450 euros/month), short-term employment (up to 50 working days/year) as well as paid internships are possible. A typical job could for example be tutoring.

No. In order to work full time you need a Working Visa. It is illegal to take up full time employment with the Working Holiday Visa.

As there should only be a short period of time between the application and the actual stay, you cannot apply for the visa more than 3 months in advance. Please make sure to schedule enough time not only for the processing of the visa but also for getting an appointment for your visa application.

The proof of financial resources has to be recent. If you submit a bank statement, the account movements of the past 6 months should be documented.

The following insurances are required:

  • Proof of liability insurance valid in Germany (amount of coverage at least 30,000 euros)
  • Proof of health insurance including hospital treatment and repatriation (amount of coverage at least 30,000 euros)
  • Accident insurance (amount of coverage at least 30,000 euros)

Please be sure to submit the original documents.
